Layer 2 Tunnelling Protocol
Layer 2 Tunnelling Protocol est un protocole utilisé pour supporter les Virtual Private Networks (VPN).
Le protocole L2TP (Layer 2 Tunnel Protocol) est un standard venant de l'Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) qui combine des fonctionnalités de deux autres protocoles tunnel : Cisco's Layer 2 Forwarding (L2F) and Microsoft's Point-to-point tunneling protocol (PPTP).
D'après la documentation technique de Cisco : L2TP est un composant pour les VPN. Les VPN permettent aux utilisateurs et aux administrateurs télécom' de se connecter à leur intranet corporate ou extranets.
